We’re in Mandarin, Jacksonville, working on a shower remodel designed to replace an outdated garden tub with a large, open walk-in shower.
The original space had a large acrylic garden tub that was old, cracked, and no longer practical for the homeowner. Our goal was to remove the tub and create a more open, functional shower that would be easier to maintain and better suited to the family’s needs.
Instead of enclosing the shower with glass, we created a large pony wall with an open entry. The shower has plenty of depth, along with a fully waterproofed system to help keep water contained.
The shower features multiple water options, including a rain head, fixed shower head, and handheld sprayer. The valve is positioned near the entrance so the homeowner can turn the water on and adjust the temperature before stepping into the shower.
We also incorporated two separate niches for storage. One provides convenient space for shampoos, conditioners, and other shower products, while the second can be used for decorative items such as plants.
The tile layout was carefully planned to keep the design consistent throughout the space. The vertical and horizontal tile patterns continue through the niches, creating clean lines that flow naturally across the walls.
A mosaic tile floor completes the shower and adds another layer of detail to the design.
Every element was selected with the homeowner, from the tile and mosaic to the shower fixtures and storage. The space was also designed with everyday use in mind, including enough room to comfortably accommodate the family and make bathing a dog or helping with the kids easier.
This project is a great example of how removing an outdated tub can transform a bathroom into a spacious, functional walk-in shower designed around the homeowner’s needs.
